The Azienda Agricola Mevante is set on the hills of Bevagna, ‘till 90’s. The farm is exactly placed in the area where is produced the very popular wine Sagrantino.
The whole Azienda is managed by the brothers Paolo and Antonella Presciutti, both entrepreneurs, deeply linked with Umbria, a territory, and a region, full of history. As a matter of fact, during the Roman empire, Bevagna was called Mevania, and the city was considered a very important commercial place. In this village there were both the via Flaminia, the most important and popular road of all the empire, and the river Clitunno, which was navigable: these two factors were fundamental in order to create the ideal conditions for economical exchanges. The ancient people of the area, in fact, because of the prosperity of the town, built a theatre and the thermal baths, usually reserved for exhausted warriors.
Azienda Agricola Mevante is of 10 hectares totally set at east side. Thanks to this, it is possible to see dawn. The sun rising, called Levante, inspired the name Mevante, the name of the Azienda. The concepts present in the birth of the farm name, can be considered very simple, but it is because of them, that the territory of “MEVANTE” can be identified. The winery is made up of two floors. This structure, thus, is essential for having the possibility of creating, and developing, the famous falling pouring: gravity helps to have a less stressful wine and, moreover, helps to keep untouched all the aromas in the wine.
The places where the wine is sharpened are undergrounded, consequently humidity, and a certain kind of temperature, are controlled by nature. The sharpen of the wine, so, is very slow and natural, and the energy used is very low. Nowadays, the annual production of wine is about 60.000 bottles, considering Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG, Montefalco Rosso DOC, Grechetto DOC, Trebbiano Spoletino.
